From Williston, North Dakota, Thai Haggin played basketball at Williston High School where she was a Miss Basketball Award finalist. Following high school, Thai continued her athletic and academic career at University of Mary. During her four years playing basketball at Mary, she was a two-time All-NDCAC selection and her teams were NDCAC champions each of the four years, three times competing in the NAIA national tournament. She finished her outstanding playing career with an NAIA national championship in 2000. Thai and her teammates were inducted into the University Mary Hall of Fame in 2005 and she was inducted again in 2010 as an individual athlete. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree in education and has been teaching physical education in Mandan since 2002. In her years at Mandan, she has coached both the girls’ and boys’ basketball programs. Thai is in her third year as Mystics' head coach.
