Bismarck State College freshman Garin Opdahl turned out a standout effort in the multi-events at the Al Bortke Open track and field meet at the Bismarck Community Bowl. It was the first on-campus track meet ever for BSC, and Opdahl was only was one of several bright spots for the first-year Mystic program. The Fessenden native placed fourth in the men’s decathlon with 5,039 points, one point behind Dawson Community College’s Chase Keating. He won the shot put with a throw 38-6.75 and discus with a 118-01 and was second in the javelin with a 107-8. On the track, Opdahl ran 11.91 in the 100 meters, 18.63 in the 110 hurdles, 57.90 in the 400 and 5:53.75 in the 1,500 meters. In the field, he was second in pole vault at 11-9.75, high jumped 5-2.5 and was third in the long jump with a 20-7.25.
