Getting off to a great start is the goal of every team. Bismarck State's baseball took that to the extreme by going 9-1 in a season-opening trip to Tucson, Ariz.

As a team, BSC batted .399 with a .520 on-base percentaghe and .652 stuggling percentage. They Mystics banged out seven home runs and scored 113 runs. They were a modern-day junior college murderer's row:

  • Freshman catcher/designated hitter Wyatt Tweet went 20-38 with 5 doubles, 4 triples, 2 homers, 11 runs scored and 23 runs batted in.
  • Freshman outfielder Jordan Tucker went 14-34 with 2 doubles, 8 RBIs, 10 stolen bases and 19 runs scored.
  • Freshman catcher Brennan Phillips went 12-29 with 3 doubles, 10 runs scored and 14 RBIs.
  • Sophomore outfielder JJ Ritter went 15-29, with 2 triples, 10 runs scored and 13 RBIs.
  • Sophomore Darion Alexander walked 10 times and scored 11 runs.

BSC pitchers did their part as well:

  • Sophomore Mitch Sand went 2-0 with a 2.70 earned run average. He worked 10 innings, gave up 7 hits and struck out 17.
  • Freshman Scott Seim went 2-0 with an 0.00 ERA and 6 strikeouts.
  • Freshman Bryce Libke was 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA. He struck out 12 in 12 innings.
